About five years ago I was minding my own business. Working at an optical outlet in Huntingdon Valley, Pa. selling Real Estate part time; mostly to investors. In my position as an optician-manager of De-Jaview, I have plenty of  time alone.  Before I began writing I spent countless hours reading. Everything from Steven King to Kurt Vonnegut. I read biographies, science fiction, (favorite author, Robert Heinlein) historical novels and any adventurous yarns I came across. I went to the library on a weekly basis

One day as I was sitting on my butt, reading  a half dozen books, I had an epiphany: write a book. You see I had written a short story while in high school, about  a Messiah come down to earth, which I had completely forgotten until that moment. A surge of raw enthusiasm propelled me to begin writing this story.

Over the course of the next few years a filled 16 copy-books with illegible scrawl. When I went back and read the chicken-scratch, I discovered a strange underlying bi-product . Encased inside this scifi-adventure novel was the seed of a techno-spiritual discipline that I am certain will change the planet for the better.

Go figure.

Anyway, while I was working out the plot structure a friend gave me a book called ‘In The Spirit’ Conversations with the Spirit of Jerry Garcia. This book changed the whole direction of my story. First off- I am a deadhead, have been since 74. The musicians, the folklore the whole alternative community appeals to me.

Once I read ‘In The Spirit’ Jerry Garcia found a place in my novel.  The Grateful Dead as a band, as a bent institution deserves to be depicted in a semi-fictional format. And I guess I’m just the head to do it. The message concerning our planet as a living entity, the pleas for a higher consciousness, had a lasting effect on my psyche.

So I incorporated the knowledge acquired from that book into my new  science fiction adventure novel. Where did  Spin & Mod come from. I have a theory about that.  The creator communicated the essence of  the discipline to me in the form of a  story-line. To be continued…
